When should you book a consultation?

  • You find your CPAP hard to use. Discomfort, constraints or difficulty adapting: you want to review your treatment and the options available.
  • You have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. You want to understand the results and agree on personalised care.
  • You snore or suspect sleep apnea. You are looking for a medical assessment and guidance on further tests.

A thorough assessment of your situation

Your history and your tests

Your symptoms, expectations and the treatments you have already tried are discussed with you. Available sleep tests are reviewed in light of your health and the difficulties you face day to day.

A complete and thorough ENT examination

The clinical examination is central to the consultation. It pays particular attention to the upper airway, looking for anatomical factors that may contribute to snoring, apneas or difficulty with treatment.

Conclusions explained

The examination findings are related to your history and your results. Dr Marc Boukhris explains the conclusions and, if needed, which further tests would be useful.

Options discussed with you

The discussion may cover improving CPAP tolerance, whether a mandibular advancement device is indicated, or the relevance of medical and surgical treatments. Some approaches can be combined, in coordination with the professionals involved.

Nasal breathing, weight and sleep position are also considered when they affect the condition or its treatment. The expected benefits, limits and constraints of the relevant options are explained, to help you choose care that fits your situation and daily life.

If needed, drug-induced sleep endoscopy

Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) can complete the assessment by clarifying how the airway collapses and guiding the choice of treatment. Performed under sedation at a separate appointment, it allows the airway to be observed during induced sleep.

Conclusions and a plan for what comes next

At the end of the consultation, you receive:

  • A personal explanation of the conclusions and options.
  • A written medical report.
  • A plan for the next steps, setting out how your care and follow-up will continue.

Preparing for your appointment

Bring the reports of your sleep tests, your medical letters and information about treatments you have already tried. If you use CPAP, any available usage data can also help.

Haven’t had a sleep test yet? You can book a first assessment; Dr Marc Boukhris will advise on the tests you need.

Practical questions

Does the consultation include a sleep study?

The consultation includes the medical assessment and the ENT examination. A sleep study is a separate test, recommended according to your situation.

I already have a medical recommendation for an oral appliance: who should I contact?

You can book directly with Dr Chira Riahi-Boukhris for the dental assessment, without a further routine consultation with Dr Marc Boukhris.

How can I find out about fees and terms?

The Arava office will explain the arrangements and fees before your appointment is confirmed.
